Connect the South Side and south suburbs with the job opportunities in and around O'Hare Airport and the northwest suburbs via Union Station and McCormick Place on existing tracks
Cook County has a huge jobs-housing mismatch. Metra can solve that problem if only it connected north side and south side trains into one service (like the CTA does with the Red Line) instead of stopping all their trains downtown as they do today.
There are existing tracks that connect Metra service from the north to Metra service to the south.
Metra already serves O'Hare Airport on the Milwaukee District North Line.
Imagine the power of connecting the Metra Electric north of McCormick Place through downtown via Union Station to existing Metra service to O'Hare. One train from O'Hare to the south side -- and direct service for conventioneers to McCormick Place, as well a tourists to all our south side museums, including the Obama Presidential Library.
All planning agencies should work on a long-range transportation plan that includes crosstown Metra service. Here is one idea.
